Africa Train-the-Trainer

Accra, Ghana
November 5-9, 2008

African publishers, writers and editors met in Ghana for MAI’s Train-the-Trainer conference from November 5 to 9.  Men and women from eight countries learned how to share their publishing knowledge with others in the field.

Facilitator Richard Crespo taught on “How Adults Learn,” exploring different learning styles, learning levels and teaching methods.  Participants applied their new skills by creating presentations and outlining plans for a 3-day training conference.

Participants left feeling energized and enriched, with the desire to use their new training skills to encourage others. “I went away feeling I had learned things that were transferable to others,” said Iyabode Okoro, editor of Family Heartbeat magazine in Nigeria.  “It had been my prayer that whatever I learned would be transferable.”

A developing website will enable trainers to share tips and encouragement with other conference participants. MAI anticipates that many of these men and women will serve as speakers and workshop leaders for LittWorld 2009, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, Nov. 1-6, 2009.
