Myanmar: Training church leaders to write
June 14-20, 2007
By invitation of a local Christian publishing house in Myanmar, conducted an author training workshop, June 14-20, 2007, in the capital, Yangon. This seminar followed MAI’s trainings in 2004 and 2006 for marketing and publishing. MAI sent an experienced writer trainer to lead this residential one-week writer workshop, and she involved a local Burmese author as her co-trainer and translator. Through this workshop, 12 carefully selected writers developed ideas for publishable manuscripts and began writing with editorial help and guidance from the MAI trainer.
Until now, the host publishing house has focused on translating literature into Burmese, but that vision has broadened largely as a result of his contact with MAI. “I think it’s best to train writers so that we can produce literature in the context of my country,” the publisher said. |
