Mexican Author Reflects on Latin American Interest in Christian Publishing
Mexican author and MAI board member, Keila Ochoa Harris, led two workshop sessions on writing at the Congreso Latinoamericano de Evangelización (CLADE V) last July in Costa Rica. The Christian leader congress, attended by some 700 people, included a book fair with  book launches, workshops and autograph sessions coordinated by Ian Darke, our Latin America regional trainer. Keila shares her impressions about writing and publishing in Latin America from the CLADE V experience here:

Comic Drawing Helps Develop Writing
Writers in Cambodia were working hard on personal experience articles in a workshop last April by MAI board member Larry Brook. One fellow had to rewrite his essay because he omitted all the details.

To help the writers communicate with specifics and in narrative, Larry showed them a Green Arrow comic book. Then he drew a basic comic on the board and asked writers to draw one of their article.

“I find the picture technique profitable in the way it brings their writing from abstract exposition to narrative and scenes. It's hard to draw a cartoon of a definition or an explanation,” Larry says. “So, it moves them much more quickly into writing scenes, which is the goal.”

Successful Editing to Equip Wordsmiths in Latin America
Within the Latin American Church, many scholars and pastors have the potential to become good writers. These men and women need the assistance of quality editors who can help them craft and refine messages.

We are pleased to announce the publication of Edite con éxito (Successful Editing), a revised and updated Spanish-language editor training manual. Our former intern, Katie Skero, interviewed veteran editor and trainer Adriana Powell of Argentina, who translated and edited this edition.

Pray: First-time training in Central Asia
We have been invited to lead our first-ever writer workshop in a Central Asian nation this October 4 to 6. Most of the limited Christian publishing has been translations in this highly literate nation (99%) of 5.5 million, who are 75% Muslim, 20% Russian Orthodox and 5% Protestant or “other.”

Our host, director of a Christian printing/publishing company in the capital city, told us, "The time is right for equipping national Christian writers."
Ramon Rocha III, our new director of publisher development, will provide consulting and help lead the workshop. He and Roger Palms, former editor of Decision magazine, will train 20-plus writers.

-Please pray for:
-the 20-plus writers to have vision to impact their culture for Christ
-preparations by the trainers and the local host
-a quality translator and clear communication
-opportunities to publish writers' finished articles
-wisdom and guidance in how to follow up this workshop, potentially with an ongoing Christian writer group

Have you met our new director of publisher training? Hear from Ramon in this 3 minute interview with John Maust.

Pray for our unique international publishing conference, LittWorld 2012, in Nairobi, Kenya, October 28 to
November 2, 2012.
